The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of patrol deputy


JOB POSTING: Open until filled 

  


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 


  • Patrol county and city roadways and assist citizens in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Respond to calls for service as directed, perform traffic enforcement duties, issue citations as necessary.
  • Direct traffic as well as respond to and investigate traffic crashes.
  • Complete offense and incident reports as well as investigate criminal activity; may be required to testify in court.
  • Execute warrant and on view arrests as required in hostile and non-hostile environments and situations.
  • Respond to animal control calls.
  • Investigate and protect crime scenes, obtain latent prints, take photographs, mark and record evidence in the chain of custody and deposit all evidence into the care of the agency evidence holding facility.
  • Serve civil process documents and conduct civil standby as required.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Sheriff or Supervisor.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Possess a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Peace Officer or in a related field required OR an equivalent combination of education and related experience is preferred but not required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license or be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of date of hire.
  • Be licensed as a basic peace officer in good standing with TCOLE required.
  • Be able to pass the TCOLE mandated physical and psychological requirements.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
  • Have never been convicted, pled guilty, nor have been on court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony.
  • Have not been convicted, pled guilty, been on community service/probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, another state, or while serving in the military during the last 10 years.
  • Have never had a military court-martial that resulted in a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge.

COMPENSATION:


  • Starting salary is $19.78 per hour
  • ​Overtime paid at time and a half; ample overtime opportunities are available; no compensatory time used

  • ​Uniforms (except footwear) provided
  • Weapons (sidearm, shotgun, patrol rifle) provided
  • Take-home assigned unit after completion of probationary period
