THE GOLIAD COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR A TELECOMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER
JOB POSTING: Open until filled
Telecommunications dispatchers receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel; maintain records of calls; and perform data entry tasks. Shift work is required. Applicants must be willing to work any shift.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and prioritize all radio channels on console
- Dispatch officers and emergency units to calls as received via radio, telephone, 911
- Answer and prioritize all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls
- Gather call information
- Transfer calls to the appropriate department
- Dispatch appropriate emergency service and generate calls for service in CAD system
- Be able to handle emergency situations in a calm manner
- Assist officers performing traffic stops by running driver's license and license plate information
- Check for warrants
- Act as point of contact for the general public
- Answer general questions
- Perform other duties as assigned or as apparent
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a high school diploma or a GED; previous experience preferred but not required
- Be a citizen of the United States of America
- Possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have a good driving record
- Have never been convicted, pled guilty, nor have been on court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony
- Have not been convicted, pled guilty, been on community service/probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, another state, or while serving in the military during the last 10 years
- Have never had a military court-martial that resulted in a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge
- Be able to read and write in the English language
- Earn State Certification within one year of date of hire
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Possess:
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Good computer skills
- Keyboard and typing experience: ability to type a minimum of 20 words per minute
- Previous experience; preferred but not required
- Be able to:
- Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Speak in a clear voice and concise manner; bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required
- Maintain composure in emergency situations
- Record and organize data
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Listen and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously
COMPENSATION:
- Starting salary $15.13 per hour
- Overtime paid at time and a half; overtime opportunities are available; no compensatory time used
- Overtime opportunities available

- Retirement through Texas County and District Retirement System
